So, this is happening. :D I’m actually kinda excited. I don’t really listen to metalcore-y metal but of course I’ll listen to it if a black woman is singing it.
I mean, duh.

Just in case y’all don’t understand why this is here — Red C were a 80s hardcore band from DC and their bass player was a black woman named Toni Young. They didn’t record that many songs, and I discovered them after buying the Flex Your Head compilation. Their stuff is good if you’re into hardcore…all four or five songs of their catalogue anyway. :) See this for more.

Marion Elliot, in the late ’70s. Lead singer of X-Ray Spex, one of the first female-fronted punk bands. Nicknamed herself “Poly Styrene.”
“By not being thin, white, or conventionally “feminine,” Styrene’s mere presence in a rock band was enough to challenge convention, and her songs, which cheerfully attacked the materialism of the modern world, added to that challenge.”

Noisettes - Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’tve)

I feel like I’ve put this on this blog already but fuck it. Even if I have, it’s worth putting on here again.
